In this episode I’m in conversation with Itumeleng Makale discussing the elusive topic of masculinity.
I chose this subject because the tendency is to talk about femininity.
I also chose this topic because it has become difficult to speak of masculinity without adding the prefix; toxic. Such that all we seem to know about masculinity is toxic masculinity.
Itu is one of the few men I know who can unpack this subject from different angles.
In this conversation he unpacks masculinity from the physiological angle to spiritual, cultural and to behavioral angle
We inevitably cover many sub topics such as capitalism, patriarchy, feminism, womanism and black families.
The conversation is stretchy and insightful. You are in for a treat

It is 23:40. 1. Itu and his English... what a pleasure to listen to. 2. I thought I understood masculinity and femininity, until this conversation. I musculanity have questions, just to say the conversation was very engaging and lots of aha moments for me. The point where he explained female and family orientation...the deeper definition of mosadi = morena. The toxification caused misunderstanding of base roles of femininity and musculanity.... mhhh. I learned., enjoyed and transformed in how I think.

Ohhh I see the “boy” goes back home from the farm/ big boss... and gets home to exert his “manhood”... I see. Patriarchy is a layered concept mos.

I always express that the toxified masculinity is not designed to benefit an African man. It treats a black man as inferior but also ensures that the black buys into the fallacy of being equal and powerful. this is how the system uses him to keep itself in enchored. This causes cognitive dissonance and its traumatic. However men are not Ready to accept this. They hold on to the false sense of power/leadership/headship(religious context).Men are traumatized. They need help as much as females do
